Available in Glasgow and Largs, Acupuncture is a Chinese therapy where the use of fine sterilised needles on various points of the body helps to ease pains and boost the body’s immune and healing system to restore health.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach to acupuncture is where needles are inserted at points on meridians (energy pathways) and left in for between 20 and 40 minutes. The length of time, what points are used and how needles are inserted varies depending on each client and what they need.

Although there is a sensation when the energy is contacted, treatments are very relaxing.

Acupunture is particularly effective for treating the following:

• Joint problems (knees, shoulders, hips and neck)
• Back pain
• Poor digestion
• Menstrual or Sleep problems

• Pregnancy

Acupuncture can be very effective in Pregnancy for morning sickness and to help in birth preparation and labour and is very complimentary with Shiatsu and Craniosacral Therapy (CST).

Auricular Acupuncture (Ear) is where either very small needles or studs are inserted in the ears and can be effective for weight loss, smoking, drug dependency and stress.

Facial Acupuncture is a more natural way to keep a youthful appearance and combined with a soothing massage releases stress. This is not a beauty treatment as such as some small bruising can occur just after treatments.

Moxibustion, Gua sha and Cupping are used in Chinese medicine alongside Acupuncture or Shiatsu treatments.

Moxibustion Is the application of heat on varies parts of the body to help boost existing energy, warm the meridians and clear damp. It is applied either direct or non direct. Non direct moxa is when a moxa stick made of dried mugwort is held over chosen points on the body. Direct moxa is when small cones of loose moxa are placed either directly on the skin or on top of a light wax, salt or ginger. This warming technique is also very relaxing.

Gua Sha Is used to remove stagnation from the body and improve circulation. The actual words mean to rub or scrape and produce a rash. This will bring marks on the body that will go away in a few days. It is particularly effective on the neck and shoulders and can also be used in back, hip and knee problems

Cupping Is an ancient technique used throughout the world not just in Asia. It was used by Napoleon Bonaparte in France so it’s actual origins are unclear. A session involves using glass or bamboo jars which have the air removed either with a flame or suction to enable then to attach to varies parts of the back , shoulders or abdomen. By drawing on the tissues blood and toxins are brought to the surface to remove stiffness and tightness. This will also greatly help to boost energy by clearing stagnation. Marks will be left on the body in circles but will fade and disappear in a few days. Excellent for tight stiff shoulders and back.
